INSURANCE AGENTS

You are in the home stretch!  You've read through the rest of the website and learned about:

We'll now talk about the most critical element of the entire process, and I'll introduce you to my Texas insurance agent...

Finding a GREAT Insurance Agent

Once you have formulated your plan for obtaining low cost health insurance, the final next step is finding a GREAT Insurance Agent.  Why is this so important?

For the same reason you need a solid game plan when working with the insurance company.  Insurance agents are in business to make money, and that is completely fair.

The problem is that the average agent wants a perfectly healthy customer who will purchase the policy with the highest premium.  That goal is in conflict with everything we've already talked about.

Compare that to the attitude of a GREAT insurance agent.  This type of agent will work with the client to obtain the best policy that meets the customer's needs.

A GREAT Insurance Agent:

  • Is an independent insurance agent.  Avoid getting locked into an agent
that only supports one insurance company.  Choose an independent agent
that is knowledgeable in all available insurance options.

  • Allows for honest discourse regarding any pre-existing conditions.
You should feel safe in being honest with an agent regarding any difficulties
you or your family are having in obtaining good insurance.  An average agent
will "cut-and-run" at the mention of these obstacles.

  • Will provide transparency regarding how your policy will be priced.  If
you have questions about a company, their coverage, their track record on
paying claims, and how they are pricing their policy, your agent should answer honestly.  If your prospective agent is not providing transparent answers to your questions, you should continue to shop around.

  • Supports your game plan.  A great insurance agent will not be threatened
if you have already done your research and understand what you want to accomplish.  He or she will understand that by supporting your goals, they
    are gaining a life-long customer, and not just a short-term policy-holder.

  • Is your advocate with the insurance company.  If you think that a prospective agent only has the insurance company's best interests in mind,
instead of yours, shop around.  A GREAT agent will be one that is your
advocate, as opposed to an insurance company spokesperson.
